'The Latest Buzz' November 2009

With winter approaching many people spend more time inside, with their heating systems on high. As a result the air becomes very dry and quickly dehydrates us. Combined with this people often consume less pure water as warm drinks seem more appealing.

Remember the largest component of the body is water. Without adequate hydration, our bodily processes don’t function as efficiently, including our inbuilt heating and energy production. Therefore drinking water in winter is very important for keeping warm.

Stay hydrated this winter with Tree of life Natural spring water, direct from Pembrokeshire Hills. After 15 years of filtering through the mineral rich landscape, this water is full of mineral goodness and cheaper than many leading water brands. 1.5ltr 67p & 500ml 35p. Also while stocks last we have it on offer, Buy 2 & get one free!

Ginkgo biloba is native to China where it has been used for culinary and medicinal purposes for thousands of years. Traditionally it has been used for the enhancement of mental function, memory, and improved circulation to the whole body including the extremities. Ginkgo is also the oldest known living tree species with no close living relatives.

A.Vogel has now obtained a medicinal product licence to sell Ginkgoforce to relieve the symptoms of Raynaud’s syndrome (Cold hands and feet, pain, tingling or numbness in the extremities) and Tinnitus. Ginkgoforce is a dry extract from fresh Ginkgo Biloba L. leaves. We are currently selling Ginkgoforce tablets at £15.65 for 60 Tablets (1 Months Supply.)

Are you feeling SAD? Brighten and warm-up your spirit with a lightbox. At this time of year many people start to suffer from light deprivation, due to low levels of daylight and less time outside. Light deprivation known as SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) can cause many symptoms including, depression, lack of energy, anxiety, irritability and sleep problems. Almost everyone can benefit from increased energy when using a lightbox. Lightboxes are available in store or from us by mail order.

We also stock Ecozone BioBulbs to use around your home. The Biobulb is a full spectrum daylight bulb that uses 75% less energy than standard light bulb, and lasts around 10,000 hours. The 100w (using 25w) Biobulb closely replicates sunlight and issues a massive 1750 lumens, where a standard 60w bulb only manages 600 lumens. They are ideal for reading and most pleasing to the eye. Available in Bayonet and Screw fittings, 60w and 100w equivalent. £14.63 each.

Keep warm this winter with these innovative, eco-friendly Bamboo socks and scarves made from 100% naturally grown and sustainable bamboo. Bamboo fabric absorbs and evaporates sweat in a split second; it doesn’t stick to the skin. Bamboo has extraordinary water absorbency, which helps it to grow fast. In fabric form it retains this remarkable property, it’s 3-4 times more absorbent than cotton. It ‘wicks’ away moisture from the body which then evaporates, keeping you naturally drier and more comfortable.

Bamboo fabric is highly breathable in hot weather and also keeps you significantly warmer in the cold. Keeping you more comfortable in all temperatures. At a microscopic level, bamboo fibre has a round surface. Because of this, it’s very smooth and sits perfectly next to the skin. Bamboo thrives naturally without using any pesticides or fertilizers. The yield you get from an acre of bamboo is 10 times greater than the yield from cotton. As the fastest growing plant in the world, bamboo spreads rapidly across large areas. Because of this, bamboo is known to improve soil quality in degraded and eroded areas of land. Bamboo can also grow on hill slopes where nothing else is viable.
